Many lives have been saved and families forever changed thanks in part to the generous support of our donors.
“A dedicated and compassionate caregiver at St. Joseph Hospital for decades, Melvin Schwartz and his wife demonstrated their friendship and support for the Hospital by establishing a legacy through a generous charitable planned gift.”

As our area continues to face unprecedented challenges as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the Toluca Lake-Burbank community has stood with Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Since the beginning of the crisis, over $360,000 has been raised specifically for COVID-19 Response.
Saint Joseph’s has put these generous gifts to work immediately. In particular, COVID-19 Response donations have enabled us to purchase:
- Two Solaris UV Light machines to explore new methods of COVID-19 disinfecting protocols
- The InTouch Telehealth System to allow COVID-19 patients to video conference with physicians on their care team, as well as with family members
Our community has also provided other special gifts in support of our COVID-19 Response efforts, including:
- More than 55,130 masks
- Over 4,250 face shields
- Nearly 28,000 gloves
- More than 2,000 bottles of hand sanitizer
- Over 6,600 shoe coverings
- More than 7,000 meals provided to our caregivers
Because of the compassion and generosity of neighbors like you, Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center can remain on the forefront of the fight against COVID-19. Gregg Garfield — our medical center’s first COVID-19 positive patient, and one of the earliest people to be diagnosed with coronavirus in the United States — came perilously close to losing his life. Saint Joseph’s clinicians gave him just a 1% chance of survival. But upon recovering and being released 64 days later, Gregg’s message to the front line workers at Saint Joseph’s was simple: “Thank you. Thank you for saving my life.”
