Enhancing lives at the DFCC

Through the unwavering generosity of our donors, the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center (DFCC) at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center is experiencing a remarkable era of growth and innovation. Philanthropy has been the catalyst
for a series of significant advancements and the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment, setting new standards in cancer care excellence. From pioneering precision radiation therapies
to integrating holistic wellness programs that support patients beyond traditional treatment, our benefactors are at the heart of these transformative initiatives. Explore how philanthropic support is revolutionizing cancer treatment, providing hope and improving outcomes for patients at the DFCC.

State-of-the-art equipment purchased
AccuVein® AV500

The AccuVein® AV500 vein visualization system is a device that uses a low-power laser to display an image of veins on
the surface of the skin. This is used in infusion therapy, radiology and oncology, where chemotherapy can make finding veins
even more challenging. The AccuVein® AV500 is especially useful in patients undergoing multiple cancer treatments and is designed to function well on all skin tones.

AccuVein® HF580
To support portability, the AccuVein® HF580 is a flexible, wheeled stand with built-in charging capability for hands-free
and mobile applications of the AccuVein® AV500
visualization device. It allows this equipment to be positioned well during a procedure and charged in between treatments.

Two Elekta Active Breathing Coordinators™
The Elekta Active Breathing Coordinator™ (ABC) is used to protect the heart, lungs and liver while a patient receives radiation. The ABC supports automated assisted breath-hold gating during treatment and allows the radiation beam to be
more accurate with areas affected by respiratory motion. We purchased two systems, which include the ABC mouthpiece and filter kit that provides an improved seal for breathing volume measurement and treatment accuracy. An additional benefit of
this system is that it minimizes patient effort and stress during treatment.

Enhancing patient comfort
Improvements were made to enhance patient and visitor comfort, including:
• New patient mammography gowns and spa robes
• Refresh of the breast imaging waiting area
• Relaxation music added to the dressing room waiting area
• Cosmetic updates in the healing garden
• Hospitality cart with coffee and tea to bring comfort to patients and families
• Newly painted walls throughout the center and new artwork installed
• Caregiver headshots with a personal statement added in the main waiting area to help put patients at ease by getting to know their care providers AccuVein®
